Hey my loves,
How do you show up when things are hard? Because that’s when it counts…
It’s easy to get up and go to the gym when you’ve had a great night's sleep, your activewear is laid out and the sun is shining. But how do you show up when you’ve had a bad sleep, you can’t find your clothes and it’s a bit of a rainy day? How you show up in these moments is a reflection of your true self and how quickly you’ll achieve your goals.
It’s important to push through and hold our standards high EVEN on the hard days.
Here are some tips that have helped me:
1. Shift from shame and guilt to curiosity.
Often we can go straight to shaming ourselves when we aren’t achieving our goals - try and reframe this and shift into curiosity. Why do you feel that way? How can you show up differently moving forward?
2. Remember your why.
When you start to lose your motivation (which often happens when things are going wrong) it’s important to reconnect with your why. Ask yourself: Why do you want this? Why is this important to you? Once you get clear and reconnect with your why it will be so much easier to push through any “failures”.
3. Give yourself permission to feel the feels and set yourself up for success.
Don’t guilt or shame yourself for being upset or disappointed. Allow yourself to sit in the feeling but also make sure you know the difference between using something as an excuse vs something that actually means you can’t do it (e.g. if it’s raining it’s not the best reason to skip gym but if you’ve had an hour of sleep it may not be a good idea to go to gym). Evaluate what happened and put steps in place to help stop these barriers from coming up again in the future.
4. Reframe
I’m currently in a season of leaning into discomfort - and as soon as I said this, things started to get really uncomfortable in every aspect of my life. Instead of looking at this as the universe showing me I’m not ready (because I was VERY uncomfortable) - I shifted this and said, “Wow, what a great opportunity for me to exercise this new skill”. Show yourself and the universe that you CAN do it and imagine how easy it will be the next time you do it.
How you show up when things are hard is a direct correlation of the person you are and the life you lead. If you always give up when things get hard then you will never achieve your goals. You will be challenged, things will not always feel very easy but what’s important is to reconnect with our why to help us get through those harder moments.
If this has resonated with you and you want to hear more, we did a poddy ep about it last week that you can listen to here.
Love always,
G xx
