Do you ever catch yourself saying, “Well if I just had a bit more money…” or “Money is so hard to come by…” This one is for you…
If you do catch yourself saying these things, it probably means you have some work to do on your money mindset. Trust me when I say, when you do this work, your whole reality will shift with money - but I want you to enter this with an open mind.
Your money mindset is essentially about all of the beliefs and attitudes that you hold towards money. It’s about how you think and feel when it comes to earning, saving, investing and spending. If you’re always coming from a place where money is scarce and hard to come by, that can become your financial reality. Once you shift those thoughts to a more positive and abundant perspective, you’ll start to see more possibilities and opportunities that you may have never noticed before. It can be hard to get clear on what your money mindset is like as it is not something often taught to us or talked about. If you want to go deeper and find out more about where your money mindset is at you will love the journaling prompts I share below!
Once I started to work on my money mindset, shift and rewire the limiting beliefs I held about money, my life truly changed and turned into something better than I could have ever imagined.
One of the most common mistakes I see people make is that they tell themselves they will start working on their finances ‘when they have more money’. This is actually a limiting belief - you have to start working on your money mindset NOW so that you can attract and hold new levels of wealth and success.
Here are a few journaling prompts to help you understand where your money mindset is at and start making positive changes:
- Reflect on some early memories about money:
- What are your earliest memories of money?
- How do they influence your current financial behaviour?
- What were some of the common phrases used around you in relation to money? E.g. Money doesn’t grow on trees…
- Unpack your emotions around money
- How do you feel when you think about your financial situation?
- What emotions come to light?
- Are you avoidant, anxious or secure about money? (attachment styles)
- Look at your beliefs about your goals
- What are your financial goals?
- Do you believe you can achieve them? Why or why not?
- Look at what your spending habits are and how they make you feel
- What are your spending habits like?
- Do you feel in control of your spending?
- If you could make any change about your spending habits what would it be?
- Identify any fears you have about money
- Do you find yourself frequently worried about money? What specific fears do you have?
- If those fears became a reality - what actions could you take to get out of the situation?
Shifting your money mindset isn't an overnight process, and it can be challenging. But every step you take is a step toward a healthier, more abundant financial future. Remember, it’s all about progress, not perfection.
